Meet ISPA's 2017 Australia Fellowship Program participant Simon Abrahams!
Creative Director & CEO, Melbourne Fringe
Simon Abrahams is Creative Director & CEO of Melbourne Fringe, one of Australia's largest multi-artform open access festivals, and Chair of Theatre Network Australia, the national service organisation he co-founded in 2009. He is a programmer, producer, performer, advocate and arts consultant. Simon has held executive and senior programming roles devising transformational artistic and strategic frameworks in organisations including the Wheeler Centre, Arts Centre Melbourne, Polyglot Theatre and Gasworks Arts Park. In 2015, Simon completed a research project for the Australia Council investigating theatre for young people in Belgium, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. Simon regularly works as a facilitator, host, public speaker, peer assessor and arts consultant.
Simon’s work has been awarded with the 2015 Melbourne Award for Melbourne Fringe, 2011 Governor of Victoria Export Award for arts and entertainment for Polyglot, three Australian Business Arts Foundation Awards, the 2014 CHASS Future Leaders Award, and together with his Polyglot colleague Sue Giles, Simon was named among Arts Hub’s Top Ten Australian Arts Leaders of 2010. In 2012 Simon was a member of the Australia Council for the Arts Emerging Leaders' Development Program and in 2016, Simon completed the European Festivals Association’s Atelier for Festival Managers in Budapest, Hungary.
