Meet ISPA's 2017 Netherlands Fellowship Program participant Malcolm Rock!
Artistic Director, ODD Continent
Malcolm Rock is a writer-director-producer of opera, dance and theatre. He’s artistic director of ODD Continent whose recent multidisciplinary project "Homebody" was a co-production with the Dutch National Ballet, North Netherlands Theatre and Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam. His forthcoming production "Morning Blossoms" is an operatic musical for singers, dancers and symphony orchestra.
Malcolm was formerly resident assistant director at Melbourne Theatre Company, international director for Dansgroep Amsterdam and artistic director of Autonomous Productions. With long-time collaborator Remi Wörtmeyer he created work for The Australian Ballet and Dutch National Opera & Ballet. He produced award-winning protest theatre project “Trip en Masse” for performances in Kenya and at the National Performing Arts Centre Beijing.
Malcolm was trained in puppetry by Spare Parts Theatre artistic director Peter Wilson and was assistant director to Simon Phillips (Love Never Dies, Priscilla Queen of the Desert). He was awarded a bursary prize from the International Foundation for Arts & Culture and a Nescafé Big Break for cultural entrepreneurialism. His arts writing has appeared in The Guardian, The Age and Time Out, among others.
