Festival Director
Joe Sidek has been the Festival Director of George Town Festival since its inception in 2010. He started the Butterworth Fringe Festival in 2015, the Rainforest Fringe Festival in 2017, and was appointed the Managing Director of Tropfest South East Asia in 2013. Joe was invited to sit on the Cultural Economy Development Agency Industry Advisory Panel, an agency that spearheads arts and cultural development in Malaysia. CENDANA came into being on the 1st of June 2017. International conferences Joe has been invited to speak at include Tedx (Chiang Mai 2014), City Branding & Festival Management Programme (Yogyakarta 2015), LABS TO PUBLIC (Berlin 2015), the ASEAN@50 Conference (Kuala Lumpur 2017), and the Cultural Academy Conference on ‘Reviving and Revitalising Cities and Spaces Through Arts and Culture’ (Singapore 2017). A regular staple at global arts markets, some of the events Joe has been invited to attend include the Performing Arts Market (Yokohama 2013, 2014), Australian Performing Arts Market (Brisbane 2016), and the Major Australian Festivals’ Commissioning Site (Melbourne 2017).
