ISPA Awards

AWARD CATEGORIES
The International Society of Performing Arts (ISPA) has four categories of award.

  • Distinguished Artist Award
  • International Citation of Merit
  • Patrick Hayes Award
  • Angel Award

DISTINGUISHED ARTIST AWARD
The ISPA Distinguished Artist Award is presented to performing artists who have made an outstanding contribution of talent, artistry, dedication, and service to the world for performing arts. Recipients of the ISPA Distinguished Artist Award have included:

INTERNATIONAL CITATION OF MERIT
The ISPA Citation of Merit is presented for unique lifetime achievement which has enriched the international performing arts. This award is not for performance but rather for distinguished service working within the profession. For example work as a manager (artist/company/venue), in education, marketing and public relations, consultancy, festival director, acoustician, architect and other associated activities.

PATRICK HAYES AWARD
Patrick Hayes was the founding president of the International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation, originally established in 1948 as the National Association of Concert Managers. The Patrick Hayes Award, the only award from an ISPA member to an ISPA member, recognizes an ISPA member of long standing whose achievements in arts management are deserving of special praise and recognition.

ANGEL AWARD
The ISPA Angel Award is presented to an individual or organization which has demonstrated a significant and lasting contribution to the support of the performing arts which transcends the boundaries of one country or institution, and merits international recognition. This achievement may be through outstanding leadership, advocacy, philanthropy, innovation, scholarship, or curatorship.

EXTRAORDINARY AWARD
Presented in 2005 to Walter Homburger for his remarkable career over six decades, during which he shaped the careers of many top artists as well as the National Ballet of Canada, and the Toronto Symphony. Mr Homburger joined ISPA when it was founded in 1948.

Presented in 2005 to the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative which was launched in 2002 to bring great international artistic masters together with young artists of extraordinary potential in a one-to-one mentoring relationship. This biennial initiative supports the five artistic disciplines of dance, literature, music, theatre arts and visual arts.
