David Baile appointed CEO of ISPA
An acknowledged leader in the performing arts industry, Mr. Baile's career spans fifteen years in progressively challenging positions, the last six as General Manager of Opera Atelier in Toronto, Canada, an internationally renowned opera/ballet company producing historically informed work of the baroque period. David is a thoughtful, articulate and effective manager with a history of leading companies to new levels of success financially and organizationally. His core expertise lies in organizational development; fundraising and board development; fiscal management; volunteer recruitment and development; and relations' management. Prior to joining Opera Atelier, David served as General Manager of the Factory Theatre in Toronto, was an arts administration consultant serving clients such as Toronto's Metropolitan Culture Division and the Performing Arts Development Fund of Toronto (where he served as Executive Director from 1990-1992). In the late 1980s, David served for 5 years as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Minister of Financial Institutions. David has also been a guest lecturer in arts administration for York University, the University of Toronto and Humber College. He holds a B.A. in Urban Development from the University of Western Ontario. David joined ISPA in 2006 attending his first Congress in Hong Kong. ''After 15 years of working with individual arts organizations, I welcome the opportunity to be working on behalf of the entire performing arts fiel," he said. "In particular, ISPA's international mandate holds great excitement for me, and I am looking forward to working with the ISPA as we build an even broader and more diverse membership.'' The search for ISPA's new CEO began in June and was led by Chair Martha Jones and the members of the Board's Executive Committee. In addition, long-time ISPA member Shelton Stanfill served on the committee as did Board member-at-large Gunther Broucke. Commenting on the search and the appointment of David Baile, ISPA Board Chair Martha Jones stated, ''ISPA was quite fortunate to receive over twenty outstanding resumes for the position of CEO. The search committee was diligent and forthright in its efforts to interview the most qualified candidates and in the end Mr. Baile was the unanimous choice. David is a top-notch professional with a keen eye toward the aesthetic as well as the fiscal side of operations. He brings intelligence, charm, an outstanding work ethic and, above all else, a sense of humor most needed by all who embrace this industry as their life's work. The Board looks forward with great anticipation to David's arrival in late October, 2007 and to introducing him to all ISPA members at the NY 08 Congress in early January.''
