Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay
Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay is Singapore's national performing arts centre. Grand opening on 12 October 2002, Esplanade will have year-round programmes in its state-of-the-art venues that include a 1,600-seat Concert Hall, a 2,000-seat Theatre, two small studios, outdoor venues for performances as well as the arts-related Esplanade Mall. Esplanade's three-week Grand Opening Festival will feature 1,300 artists from 22 countries in over 70 productions was well as 600 free events, and promises to be Singapore's most spectacular arts and cultural event. The National Arts Council, Singapore
Set up in 1991, the National Arts Council (NAC) is committed to nurturing the arts and developing Singapore as a distinctive global city for the arts. Apart from being a national funding body, NAC also organises national and international arts events such as the Singapore Arts Festival, Singapore Writer's Festival and Nokia Singapore Art (a visual arts festival). With support from the Singapore Tourism Board, the Council will jointly organise with Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay, the 2003 ISPA Congress in Singapore.
