Victory Gardens Theater (ISPA Member Organization), producer of new plays in Chicago, announced today it will name its new studio theater upstairs at the Victory Gardens Biograph the Richard Christiansen Theater, in honor of the Chicago Tribune chief critic emeritus and longtime champion of Chicago’s live theater scene.

The Sage Gateshead (ISPA member organization and host to the ISPA 2005 Gateshead Congress) celebrated its 5th birthday on December 17, 2009. At the formal birthday celebration, the organization announced that Anthony Sargent (long standing ISPA member) will continue as General Director until 2015 and Lord (David) Puttnam of Queensgate will continue as Chair until 2012.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded grants totaling $1.9 million to a consortium of three university‐based, multi‐disciplinary performing arts presenting organizations (all ISPA member organizations). The grants were awarded to sustain and advance their ambitious commitment to classical music in the face of intense economic challenge.

New York’s Carnegie Hall has agreed to partner with the new Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Center (ISPA member organization, pictured left) in Asturias, Spain, designed by the legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer. As part of this partnership, musicians from The Academy, an innovative program created by Carnegie Hall and The Juilliard School, will take part in a residency at the Niemeyer Center, including public performances and educational activities.
