The Chandler Center for the Arts is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to fill a new development officer position. The Chandler Cultural Foundation is a nonprofit corporation contracted by the City of Chandler to serve as the programming and fundraising entity of the Chandler Center for the Arts. The development officer position represents an exciting opportunity to advance the Chandler Cultural Foundation's efforts in creating sustainable funding for the Chandler Center for the Arts. This is a contract position working 30-40 hours per week, mostly weekday hours but may involve several evening and weekend hours per month. Starting pay is $35/hour with no benefits. Job Summary Reporting to the general manager of the Chandler Center for the Arts, the development officer works closely with the Chandler Cultural Foundation Board of Directors and Fundraising Committee to plan and implement strategies to ensure substantial ongoing contributed revenue for the Chandler Center for the Arts. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (List may vary and is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary): - Plan and implement short and long-term strategies for all aspects of funding solicitations, including endowment donations, sponsorships, grants, planned giving and capital funding.
- Serves as first point of contact with Fundraising Committee regarding requests for materials and solicitation support.
- Attend monthly Fundraising Committee and Board meetings to present funding/goal reports and collaborate on fundraising strategies.
- Prepare agenda and communications for all Fundraising Committee meetings.
- Meet weekly with general manager to report on solicitation progress and outcomes.
- Implement annual fundraiser event and other donor recognition events as assigned.
- Train committee and board members in the solicitation of gifts.
- Develop campaign strategies and design solicitation materials as needed.
- Write persuasive proposals and grant applications. May also involve such solicitations for the Vision Gallery, a satellite space of the Chandler Center for the Arts.
- Maintain donor database and ensure acknowledgement and delivery of donor/member benefits.
- Monitor grant expenditures and prepare all necessary grant reports.
- Monitors and utilizes philanthropic giving trends to develop viable solicitations.
- Staff the membership table as needed at onsite performances and offsite special events; and recruit volunteers/ board members to assist at membership table.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Principles and practices of conducting annual, capital, endowment and planned giving campaigns including individual donor solicitation, as well as corporate, and foundation solicitations;
- Ability to plan and execute short and long-term strategies;
- Must be receptive to input and suggestions from an active fundraising committee and board of directors while also providing professional fundraising guidance;
- Working knowledge that includes communication arts and the principles of management and ethics;
- Principles of nonprofit management;
- English grammar, spelling and punctuation;
- Excellent written, verbal, visual presentation and public speaking skills;
- Working knowledge of accounting principles in respect to reporting donations and tracking expenditures;
- Ability to plan and organize member solicitation and recognition events;
- The operation of personal computer and various software applications for word processing, spreadsheets, etc.;
- Solid data base management and report writing skills;
- General office practices and procedures;
- Working knowledge of graphic design;
- Ability to interact in a warm and professional manner with all segments of the public;
- Occasionally supervise and coordinate the work of others, including paid staff and volunteers;
- Establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties and work collaboratively at all levels of the organization.
Acceptable Experience and Training Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in marketing, public relations, communications, arts management or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work; and 3-5 years progressively responsible experience in fundraising with a proven track record in cultivating and soliciting major individual gifts, capital campaigns and endowment campaigns; and demonstrated experience in grant research and grant writing Preferred qualifications include: three or more years of successful fundraising experience at a senior level in a nonprofit organization, preferably with a cultural institution; and experience working with boards and volunteer committees. Evaluation Work will be evaluated primarily on the level and quality of solicitations completed at six months, and the level of new contributed revenue achieved at one year. The goal for new contributed revenue to be received in the first year is a minimum of $100,000 and will be evidenced in the financial reports in comparison to the previous year.
