Pittsburgh Opera welcomes candidates for the position of General Director to take the helm of a major company that is widely recognized for the highest standards of artistic excellence, rigorous financial management, and dedication to the development of young talent. With an operating budget of $8 million and a staff of 28, the Company offers four performances of five operas during the 2007-2008 Season.

The General Director is the chief staff officer, reporting to the Board and responsible for the Company’s artistic, financial, and organizational success. The General Director ensures that the Company serves a broad and diverse audience with productions and performances at the highest possible artistic level, while achieving its income goals from ticket sales and contributions.

The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with superb management skills, a genuine enthusiasm for fundraising, a strong working knowledge of opera, and a deep personal commitment to the art form. S/he will have significant successful experience as a chief executive or senior manager in a not-for-profit organization and a proven record of sound management and positive financial results.
