In 2014, Mark Morris will premiere a new production of Mozart’s arrangement of Handel’s opera, Acis & Galatea, a timeless love story between Acis, an Arcadian shepherd, and Galatea, a nymph, set along the banks of the Mediterranean Sea. Known for his successful musical collaborations, director/choreographer Mark Morris has assembled a stellar team for this project. Celebrated visual artist and scenic designer Adrianne Lobel, Tony® award-winning costume designer Martin Pakledinaz and acclaimed lighting designer Michael Chybowski will set the stage for an expansive production fully integrating members of the Mark Morris Dance Group and four principal singers into the stage action, with the orchestra and chorus in the pit. The premiere is slated for April 2014 at Cal Performances in Berkeley, CA with Nicholas McGegan conducting the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, followed by performances at the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.
