Chris Lorway appointed as Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall Director of Programming

Chris LorwayCongratulations to ISPA Board Member Chris Lorway from Soundstreams on his appointment as Director of Programming at Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall! Susan Worthington will be succeeding him as Executive Director of Soundstreams.

“I’m deeply honoured to be joining such a fantastic team,” says Lorway. “The Corporation has long offered much to the cultural life of the city and beyond and both halls have a wonderful legacy of hosting the best artists in the world. I look forward to inviting a wide range of performers into these magnificent spaces to build upon that history.”

The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall announce Toronto’s Chris Lorway as its new Director of Programming

The Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall announced today the appointment of Chris Lorway as its Director of Programming.

“We have known and respected the contributions Mr. Lorway has made to the arts and cultural life of our city for years, and enthusiastically welcome him to our executive team,” says Charles S. Cutts, President and CEO of the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thomson Hall. “Chris’ genuine passion for the arts and all forms of music and entertainment make him an ideal fit to lead our marketing and programming staff. In addition, his diverse and extensive experiences internationally and at Lincoln Center in New York City, give him a wealth of understanding to continue to serve his home community here in Toronto.”

Of the appointment, Kim Cooke, co-chair of the Corporation’s Program Planning Committee commented, “It's a very exciting time for the corporation right now. With his extensive musical knowledge, curatorial experience and business acumen, Chris is a natural choice to help direct the vision in both iconic venues, including a revitalized Massey Hall.”

Lorway takes on the new position with an extensive and diverse background in the entertainment industry, most recently as Executive Director of Soundstreams. He is also a management consultant whose clients have included the Edinburgh Festivals, Carnegie Hall, the City of Toronto, and the City of Chicago. Lorway spent five seasons as the founding Artistic Director of the Luminato Festival, where he shaped and implemented the festival’s artistic vision and program. Other companies he has worked with include AEA Consulting, the Lincoln Center Festival, the New Yorker Festival, and Cape Breton’s Celtic Colours International Festival.

Chris Lorway will assume the role effective September 1, 2014.
