In 2015, ISPA brought 52 Fellows from around the world to the New York Congress. We know it’s impossible to meet all these emerging leaders onsite so we’re highlighting 2015 ISPA Fellows in features via member-only monthly newsletter Network and the website.

Meet Osiel Ibáñez, Head of Production at Selam in Stockholm, Sweden. Osiel is responsible for Selam’s program in Sweden and Scandinavia, as well as organizing international tours and programs with Swedish artists abroad.

Selam is a non-governmental, non-profit music organization that aims to promote diversity within the cultural offer in Sweden. The organization also runs an international culture NGO in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, managing capacity building programs, advocacy work, music festivals, a music studio and a record label.

When asked why he thinks it was important to join ISPA’s global network representing his organization he says:

“Selam’s activities and strategies concern diversity and inclusiveness within the arts in Sweden, as well as internationalization and culture development in emerging countries. Since the ISPA network represents influential managers and cultural institutions, it embodies possibilities for an international organization like us, to explore. Both during the opening and the closing of the congress, it was stressed that ISPA is now undergoing change, where rejuvenation and diversity are high priorities, focusing on achieving a representation that will reflect the global changes in culture. This sounds promising from our point of view, and I look forward to an increased interchange of knowledge and cultural production across borders and generations.”

“I felt warmly welcomed and splendidly introduced to the network and the well-managed congress,” says Osiel about his first ISPA Congress experience last month.
