"Il Ritorno" World-Premieres at Brisbane Festival, Australia
Monday, September 21, 2015
Today, we are highlighting Il Ritorno, a recent pitch projects introduced to our delegates at the New York 2015 ISPA Congress. Nine months later, on September 9th, Il Ritorno had its world-premiere at the Brisbane Festival – with a sold-out season and many great reviews!
Il Ritorno tells the story of Moneverdi’s baroque opera Il Ritorno D’Ulisse in Patria, with a blend of circus, folksong, and choreography. It’s a contemporary tale of returning, faithfulness, and longing for home told with Circa’s signature mixture of powerful physicality and scintillating musicality. As reviewer Alex Watts writing for ArtsHub described “Il Ritorno […] is exquisite; a timely exploration of diaspora and loss, longing and homecoming, which fuses circus and opera to compelling effect.”
Having just completed a successful world-premiere, Circa is off to the Dusseldorf Festival, Netherlands, for the European-premiere of Il Ritorno on September 24th! The touring momentum will continue into 2016 – Il Ritorno may even come to a venue near you! Dates and venues continue to be announced but for now we have great news for those in London, Il Ritorno will be presented at the London International Mime Festival, January 9th – February 6th, 2016.
