Friday, September 30, 2016
ISPA 2016 Global Fellow Hakan Silahsizoglu announced the founding of Atta Festival, an international arts festival for children and young people in Istanbul, Turkey, this month. As a first of its kind in Istanbul, Atta Festival celebrates both international and local companies's work for the youth. Every year Atta Festival will take place around November 20th, which is Universal Children's Day officially observed by the United Nations.
For the very edition of Atta Festival, November 18-21, 2016, various companies from outside of Turkey, including Compagnie Act2 Catherine Dreyfus (France), Triciclo Rojo (Mexico) and Xirriquiteula (Spain), will be performing at different venues in Istanbul. Unga Klara (Sweden) will be giving workshops for professionals. Also participating at the festival are three national companies from Turkey, providing creative readings for children on children’s rights.
ISPA's Global Fellowship has brought Hakan in direct contact with Tricoclo Rojo where he saw the Mexican company’s Pitch Project, Vagabond, during the Pitch New Works session at the New York 2016 ISPA Congress and invited the company right after the congress. Hakan also met his global fellow Fiona MacDonald from Imaginary Theatre (Brisbane, Australia) and now in talks with bringing its performance/installation to Istanbul for the second edition of the festival.
