"Under the Horizon" Knocks on Door of  14 Halls Across 5 Countries

Did you attend Pitch New Works at the recent congress? Today, we’re highlighting project news that we shared with delegates in New York last month. Under the Horizon produced by Huang Yi Studio + and Nederlands Kamerkoor (Taiwan/ Netherlands/ Japan) was first introduced to ISPA delegates last June at the Melbourne 2016 ISPA Congress.

Chinese folklore contends that the horizon is the frontier between life and the hereafter and souls of the departed live as shadows across that frontier. In Under the Horizon, artistic director/ choreographer Huang Yi endeavors to bring them back to life. The work places Huang and his dancers in a world where shadows and humans meet through the use of groundbreaking video techniques. Surrounded by the ethereal sounds of the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the work is at once beautiful and tragic.

Since their pitch 6 months ago, 14 halls across 5 countries have shown interest in the work, which is set to begin touring in the next year. Don’t miss it if it comes to a city near you!

With a proven track record for success, ISPA’s Pitch New Works program continues to assist works in development with securing touring dates, regional agents, co-commissions, premieres and more.
