In conversation with leading physicist and co-founder of the World Science Festival, Brian Greene, explore various aspects of this fertile terrain.

1550 SESSION III | ARTS and THE SLOW MOVEMENT
More and more frequently a healthy society is being linked to the slow movement – be it slow food, slow travel or simply slow living. Are the performing arts inherently part of the slow movement? Or indeed are touring, international exchange and new technologies the antithesis of this interest? Furthermore, as we often hear “time poverty” as the cited reason for declining audiences, how do we address these seemingly contradictory needs?
Speaker | Carl Honoré (Author, In Praise of the Slowness)
Moderator | Russell Willis Taylor (President & CEO, National Arts Strategies)

While few would dispute the importance of technology in our lives many wonder how to best use it for the distribution of performances that we have traditionally enjoyed live. In what is sure to be a controversial discussion, our speakers will explore the future of the technology of presentation before engaging the audience for their views and opinions.

The concept of a "cultural commons" is ever more important as issues of cultural and national identity offer the potential for conflict rather than the celebration of differences.
