Semana Foundation was established in 2009 with a specific goal: Work in post-conflict areas to rebuild a country devastated by war.
After an intensive search, the Foundation decide to work with El Salado, a small village located at 114 km southeast of Cartagena de Indias, where paramilitary violence left a deep damages on the people, destroying their social tissue, infrastructure and economic structures.
The Foundation, made a development plan with the community, and built a public-private alliance that put on the table the need for the private sector solidarity and also the government responsibilities for the reconstruction of the El Salado. This Alliance has made El Salado a symbol to show that reconciliation is possible when all sectors work together.
Thanks to the Foundation, El Salado looks different, people have gained confidence and new infrastructure has been built for the support of social processes.
Today, the Foundation is working with another village: San Basilio de Palenque. For more information, visit http://www.fundacionsemana.com.
