Piotr Nawrot | Speaker Festival de Música Barroca de Chiquitos
Was born in Poznan, Poland, in 1955. Nawrot entered the Divine Word Missionaries in 1974 and completed his studies on Theology and Sociology, earning his degree at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland, in 1981. He went to Washington D. C. in 1985 and studied at Georgetown University and the Catholic University of America. Nawrot completed his studies on Liturgical Music in 1988 and obtained his Master’s degree. He was awarded the Paul Hanly Ferfey scholarship that same year, which allowed him to obtain his PhD degree in musical arts by presenting his thesis Vespers Music in the Paraguay Reductions. He published Música de vísperas en las Reducciones de Chiquitos (1691 – 1767) in 1994 in La Paz, Bolivia. In 1998 he was awarded the Guggenheim grant by the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation to conduct research on the influence of indigenous peoples in the establishment and development of Baroque music in Bolivian reductions. Nawrot is a member of the Anthropos Institute in Germany and the Bolivian Academy of Ecclesiastical History. In 1997 he was appointed creative director of the International Festival of American Renaissance and Baroque Music, “Misiones de Chiquitos”.
