Meet ISPA's 2016 Canadian Fellowship Program participant Corey Payette!

Corey Payette

Artistic Director, Urban Ink Productions

Corey Payette is proud of his Oji-Cree heritage from Northern Ontario and has worked as a playwright, actor, composer, and director across Canada. He is the Artistic Director of Urban Ink Productions, Artist-in-Residence with English Theatre at Canada’s National Arts Centre, and the founder Raven Theatre. Corey has a B.F.A from York University in music composition and has trained under Full Circle:First Nations Performance Ensemble, focusing on Indigenous cultural practice. His work is interdisciplinary and challenges the public's perception of contemporary Indigenous performance. He lives in Vancouver, BC with his partner, designer Marshall McMahen.

Corey, can you name one channel that you subscribe to or frequently visit to stay up-to-date with news about the arts and culture in your region?
Corey: I would say that Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance (IPAA) is a good place to stay up to date about what is happening. They have a newsletter but are also on Twitter and Facebook.

ISPA would like to thank the Canada Council for the Arts for their support of this important regional initiative.
