Position: Company Manager

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Founded in 1980, the Mark Morris Dance Group is a 20 member dance company headquartered at the Mark Morris Dance Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The company has tour engagements domestically and internationally throughout the year and tours with live music.

This is a full-time position and includes travel. The Company Manager is responsible for managing the day-today operations of the company, both at the Mark Morris Dance Center and while on tour. The Mark Morris Dance Group travels approximately 20 weeks each year, as well as performing annually in New York City.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of and experience with a professional touring dance company or other performing arts organization. Relevant experience will include presenter relations, tour management, theatrical production, and foreign work permit/visa applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all travel and tour logistics for company, MMDG Music Ensemble and guest artists
  • Create company tour books with detailed schedules and area information
  • Provide support to the General Manager in contracting Music Ensemble members, guest artists and supplemental dancers
  • Serve as MMDG company representative with producing executives and general public
  • Work closely with General Manager to advance all engagements
  • Prepare annual tour expense projections with General Manager
  • Arrange company house seats; coordinate donor seating with Director of Development
  • Prepare work permit and visa applications for foreign touring
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll for company class accompanists, guest teachers, rehearsal pianists, and tour outreach activities
  • Manage physical therapy appointments
  • Provide administrative assistance to General and Executive Directors

Qualifications:

  • Five years of non-profit arts administration experience with minimum two years tour management experience
  • Love of travel
  • Ability to work a demanding schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Practical knowledge of all areas of dance and theater production
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a diplomatic demeanor
  • Superb attention to detail; exceptional organizational, planning and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team framework
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
  • Enjoy working in a high energy and community-based environment
