International Society for the Performing Arts

ISPA strives to meet its guiding principles through annual conferences and meetings, frequent publications, and through awards and scholarships.

Congresses and Meetings
(our upcoming meetings | Congress host guidelines)
Two major meetings are held each year designed to explore complex and sometimes controversial subjects as well as to provide a wide variety of opportunities for business and social exchange. Recent topics include "Arts and Technology", "High Art / Popular Culture", "The Economy and the Arts", "Creative Leadership in the New Millennium", "International Partnerships", "Risk and Reward"
, and "Cultural Fusion."

The Annual Congress takes place in New York, while the location of the June International Congress changes each year, with past meetings in:

    • London
    • Amsterdam
    • Munich

    • Berlin
    • Toronto

Congresses offer opportunities for new work in development to be exposed to delegates in our regular “Pitch” sessions, as well as exhibit opportunities in our regular “ProEx” sessions.  In addition to the major congresses, regional meetings are periodically scheduled, such as the October 1996 East-West conference in Budapest, the March 2000 professional academy in Riga, the European Regional meeting in Budapest in September 2006, and the Mediterranean Regional meeting in Milan in September 2007.

Future Congress Site Selection Procedures
Our June meetings are hosted by ISPA members in different cities around the world, and future sites are selected at least two years in advance by the Program Committee, based on the Congress Host Guidelines
.

Web Site
ISPA's Internet-based information system is available on the world wide web. With new features added periodically, the site includes a library of ISPA features and news; links to members' web sites; job postings in the performing arts field; and a database with complete member information which can be downloaded at no cost. This member service makes ISPA's worldwide network available 24 hours a day.

Publications

  • The complete Membership Directory is published annually and includes biographical information and photographs for all members.
  • Regular e-Reports are published after each Congress
  • Members receive regular e-Bulletins from Head Office, with updates about the Society's activities
  • Some key presentations from Congresses are published on the website
  • Member News and Job Listings are regularly updated on the website

Governance and Staff

ISPA is governed by a 25 member international Board of Directors who are elected from the membership. Policy development takes place at the Board and committee level, and all ISPA members are eligible to serve on committees. The professional management of the association is delegated by the Board to the executive director and other staff as required.

Other Programs

With the rapidly accelerating changes throughout the world, ISPA believes that it is important for its programs to remain flexible and responsive to changing conditions. Each year, therefore, there will be different opportunities for professional development, involvement and participation in special ISPA programs and initiatives.
