Lola Jaffe

Nominating Statement | “Over the course of her entire life, Lola Jaffe, as a philanthropist and volunteer, has been an extraordinary model of engagement and passion in support of and commitment to the performing arts.”

Lola Jaffe is currently Founding President/Chair of The Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, Inc., where she headed the campaign to restore the 100 year old Mahaiwe Theatre, in Gt. Barrington, MA.  She is Vice President/Treasurer of The Jaffe Foundation; a past member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee at Jacob's Pillow Dance Center in Becket, MA.; Overseer Emeritus of the Boston Symphony Orchestra; and past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Berkshire Opera.

Lola has dedicated much of her life to the arts.  A special focus of Lola’s has been to establish a program designed to expose Berkshire high school students to the fine arts and performing arts through trips to New York City during the school year. The program is supported by a fund established by Lola and her husband Edwin at the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation --- ALFEA (Anne Levinson Fund for Experiencing the Arts) and continues to provide local high school students throughout Berkshire County the opportunity to attend all Main Stage performances at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, in Stockbridge, Ma.   Additional endowments include –The Lola and Edwin Jaffe Scholarship Endowment Fund at the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, to provide annual academic scholarship to young Israeli artists;  the Lola and Edwin Jaffe Fellowship to endow a full Fellowship for a student at the Tanglewood Music Center;  The Jaffe Education Development Fund, at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Ma., to pay for educational developmental and advisement courses for disadvantaged students; most recently, Lola established The Lola and Edwin Jaffe Arts Management Endowed Scholarship at MCLA  in No. Adams, Mass, for students pursuing degrees in Arts Management.

Lola Jaffe was born in New York, NY and has lived in San Antonio, TX., Fall River, MA., Providence, RI, and Stockbridge, MA. She attended Carnegie Mellon University, PA; Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, TX; and Columbia University, NY.  She currently resides in Stockbridge and New York City. She has four children, six grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, who live in various locations throughout the Country.
