Meet ISPA's 2017 Sweden Fellowship Program participant Elin Hellrönn!

Elin Hellrönn

Producer, NorrlandsOperan

Producer at NorrlandsOperan Umeå, Sweden. Curator for the interdisciplinary performing arts festival MADE (Music Art Dance Etcetera). Graduated from Umeå University in 2006 with a master’s degree in Cultural analysis. Been working at NorrlandsOperan since 2007. Moved from producer at the dance department via coordinator at the opera department, to producer, project manager and curator at the music department. My role as producer stretches from usual producer tasks in relation to the NorrlandsOperan Symphony Orchestra to managing creative processes, contracting freelance musicians for regional touring and our two festivals (MADE and Umeå International Jazz festival). My way into the business has been both traditional and non-traditional. I started at a young age being a part of the DIYcommunity, playing in bands and arranging concerts and events.

Today I move easily between working in the traditional field to working with and within the independent music sector. Throughout all I have continued playing in bands, touring both in Sweden and in Europe. I take great satisfaction in producing art that raises awareness about social and political issues. MADE highlights a wide spectrum of genres and cross-genres, and focuses on artists that feature a progressive approach to their work. The different themes that have been leading MADE are all deeply connected to local, regional and (inter)national current events. I spend my spare time experiencing and consuming art when I’m not kept busy by family, friends and two sons.
