Meet ISPA's 2018 Sweden Fellowship Program participant Elin Hellrönn!

Elin Hellrönn

Producer, City of Umeå

Worked ten years as producer at Norrlands Operan, Umeå Sweden. Curator for the interdisciplinary performing arts festival MADE (Music Art Dance Etcetera). Also worked a short period as temporary orchestra manager for the Norrlands Opera Symphony Orchestra. Left Norrlands Operan for a new work related challenge in October 2017. I am now program manager at the cultural department, Umeå municipality. As head of the program department, apart from staff liability, I lead the work of my co-workers on a strategic and visionary basis. One of my main goals is to establish a long-term planning for programming at the new venue “Väven” – a cultural centre that opened in 2014 and holds both the city library, cinema, a black box, meeting spaces, restaurants, bars and cafés and also The Museum of Women’s History. The challenge is to find interesting and sustainable collaborations within the cultural centre and in parallel to that also working with community outreach. My way in to the business has been both traditional and non-traditional. I started at a young age being part of the DIY-community, playing in bands and arranging concerts and events. Today I move easily between working in the traditional field to working with and within the independent music scene. Throughout all I have continued playing in bands, touring both in Sweden and Europe. I take great satisfaction in programming art that raises awareness about social and political issues. I spend my spare time experiencing and consuming art when I am not kept busy by family, friends and my two sons.
