About the Organization
The International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA), is a global association of arts management leaders, who come together with the shared goal of strengthening the arts internationally by building leadership ability; recognizing and discussing field-wide trends and new developments, and deepening global exchange through the arts. We achieve this through professional congresses, professional development programs, resource sharing, and online exchange.
Position and Responsibilities
The International Society for the Performing Arts (ISPA) is seeking an intern for spring 2021. Reporting to the Manager of Membership and Events (MME), the Program and Events Intern will provide administrative support to the ISPA team, which is preparing for a congress to be held in Reykjavik in August, 2021 (conditions permitting), Pitch New Works, and researching potential hybrid-models for its NY22 Congress. Pitch New Works Program Support
Pitch New Works is a forum for creators and arts professionals to share and discover new performing arts projects at ISPA congresses. Twice a year, ISPA holds a public call for applications from which ten submissions are selected to be presented
at the following ISPA congress. Working with the Program and Advancement Senior Lead, the intern will provide invaluable support towards the production of Pitch New Works:
- Coordinate collection of materials from 10 selected Pitch New Works projects
- Develop program materials including the handout
- Schedule recording slots and contribute to the development of the host’s script
- Prepare and catalogue recording media
Event Support
Twice a year, ISPA Congresses bring together performing arts leaders from across the globe to discover the next great idea, strengthen relationships, fostering connection and exchange. The intern will assist the Manager of Membership and Events in the following with respect to the New York congress in 2022:
- Development of registration materials
- Research best practices with respect to sustainable international events
- Research developments in virtual events
Communications Support
ISPA has a diverse membership of over 500 members representing 59 different countries.
The intern will be involved with supporting ongoing communications with this membership constituency:
- Contribute to sourcing news for social media
- Contribute to researching articles for the monthly ISPA newsletter, Network
- Code and format job postings for the ISPA Career Center
ISPA’s mid-year Congress in Reykjavik, scheduled for August, will proceed contingent on international travel restrictions. If it moves forward, the intern may have the opportunity to remain with ISPA through the summer and assist with membership applications and congress registrations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate of an arts management program or related field
- Internship or work experience with Cultural or Non-Profit Organizations
- Superior verbal and written communications skills
- Fluency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
- Basic HTML and CSS knowledge
- Efficient and organized with a keen attention to detail
- Fluency or conversational skills in a second language desirable but not required
- Work well in a team environment where a small staff is responsible for a variety of tasks and initiatives
Terms
The internship begins the week of April 12, 2021 and concludes June 18, 2021. This position is part-time at 15-20 hours per week. Compensation is $500 USD per month, plus monthly metro card reimbursement. ISPA’s office is located in Manhattan (630 9th Ave.).
The intern has the option to work from home or come into the office on select days (to be arranged to accommodate for social distancing) in accordance with city and state guidelines.
The intern will not be traveling with the staff to the congress in Iceland.
