News & Press: "Pitch New Works" in Action

"SK!N" Celebrates Successful Pilot Season

Monday, November 9, 2015   (0 Comments)

Today we are highlighting SK!N, one of the pitch projects introduced to our delegates at the New York 2015 ISPA Congress. SK!N is a contemporary dance performance produced by TerryandTheCuz (Malaysia). Viewed from the confines of 40-foot custom configured shipping containers, the audience watch two dancers poetically embody the traumatic cycle of forced migration, detention, deportation and human trafficking.

We caught up with the director of SK!N Govin Ruben and heard all about the developments that have occurred since SK!N was pitched last January.

Successful (sold out) Avant-Premiere at the 2015 George Town Festival

"Listed as one of the ‘Highlights of the Festival’, our avant-premiere of SK!N in George Town enabled us to successfully trial, test and showcase all aspects of the show; including the safe moving of a live audience inside custom configured shipping containers. From all the glowing responses, reviews and feedback from industry professionals, local media, festival-goers, human rights advocates and migrant community partners; we were thrilled to see that the work had successfully evoked a visceral and emphatic response from our audiences. The unique performance concept, bold design and stunning choreography, effectively managed to uncover questions about human dignity and the commodification of people whilst reminding the audience of their attitudes and responsibilities towards human rights."
