CollapseToday, we’re highlighting Collapse by New Movement Collective, recently introduced to ISPA delegates at the Pitch New Works session of the New York 2016 Congress. Collapse is a 3-way collaboration between New Movement Collective, ScanLab Project–a London-based design studio experimenting with large scale 3D scanning, and composer/cellist Oliver Coates. The result, a performance that blurs the boundaries between dance, architecture, film and music.

We spoke with New Movement Collective’s producer, Malgorzata Dzierzon, who caught us up on all the project’s exciting developments leading up to its premiere in London next month:

"Our rehearsals are now in full swing, in preparation for the performances of Collapse, a period drama at the Southbank Centre, London August 1-6. The performance will take a promenade format, with a few surprises in store even for those very familiar with the venue!

We hope that the work will provide a moment of reflection on the complexities of time and our group memory, as we continue our investigation into these topics in the shadow of recent political developments in the UK.

In an effort to reduce the amount of unnecessary waste our promotional campaign for Collapse is paper-free and the set design utilizes components recycled from previous NMC and members’ productions.

We are working with a small, but extremely accomplished cast that includes some of the best contemporary dancers performing on the UK dance scene today.

Architecture has always played an important role in our productions and while the performance contains some direct references to London’s landscapes, we feel that the work has a universal appeal.

Our collaborators ScanLAB Project’ stunning design and video work for the production can be viewed at the Southbank Centre beyond the performance week, until August 20th.

We hope to see you in London this summer. If you are not in the area, please, follow our development on"

With a proven track record for success, ISPA's Pitch New Works program continues to assist works in development with securing touring dates, regional agents, co-commissions, premieres, and more.
