Festival Petronio Álvarez
Germán was born in Cali in 1948. He studied Anthropology at the Universidad de los Andes. He worked as a Secretary of Culture in 1998, and was appointed Manager of the Telepacífico Channel in 2001 where he remained for three years until he joined the Universidad del Valle as advisor to the Director. A columnist at Occidente and El País newpapers, and founding member of the Santiago de Cali Center for Historical and Social Studies, Patiño Ossa was responsible for the systematization of the Historical Archive of Cali in the Republican period, and is the founder and director of the Petronio Alvarez, Pacific Music festival. In 1989 he won First Prize for Regional Valle History for professionals and college students and in 1995 was a finalist for the Colcultura National Award of Linguistics with María Victoria Londoño. He was awarded the “Saman de Oro” prize in the area of culture in 1998.
While serving as manager of Telepacífico Channel, UNICEF awarded him the Iberoamerican Communication Award for the Rights of Children and Adolescents with the program “Aquí Vamos Marcando el Paso”. In 2001 he received the Order of the Nariño Government in the rank of Commander, and the Valle Order of Merit in the Arts and Culture Category, in 2002. In 2006, Germán Patiño won First Prize in the Andrés Bello Contest of Iberoamerican Thought and Memory in the essay category for his work Fogón de Negros.
