Meet ISPA's 2015 Global Fellowship Program participant Sherif El Razzaz! 

Sherif El Razzaz

Founder and General Manager, European Egyptian Contemporary Music Society

Sherif El Razzaz (Egypt/Germany) has started his career as clarinetist in Europe, where he grew increasingly fascinated with new music. As one of the first promoters of new music in Egypt, after three years of campaigning, he was able to realize the first Alexandrina Contemporary Music Biennale in 2009 with the participation of acclaimed international composers and ensembles. In order to create a solid platform for the budding new music scene in Egypt, he founded the European-Egyptian Contemporary Music Society (EECMS) and the Egyptian Contemporary Music Ensemble in 2010. In the midst of more than challenging political circumstances, Four highly successful editions of the Cairo Contemporary Music Days, over Fifteen composition commissions and academic programs could since be realized through the EECMS. The Society is nowadays cooperating with over forty cultural organizations worldwide. the EECMS became the first full associate member in the ISCM from the Arab World and north Africa as a member of Forum Wallis in Switzerland and calling in 2015 for the First Academy for contemporary Music in the med East.
