Musik i Syd
Musik i Syd is one of Sweden’s largest regional music institutions in terms of the number of collaborations and concerts arranged. With regional and state funding, and together with other actors on the music scene, we provide an enriching music environment for audiences, musicians, ensembles and music organisers in particular in southern Sweden (Skåne, Kronoberg) and in the Öresund region, as well as throughout Sweden and abroad. Each year more than 3,000 concerts for over 300,000 people are arranged, often in collaboration with various local organisers. Musik i Syd presents both international and national artists, ensembles, choirs and orchestras from various genres, such as classical and contemporary music, chamber music, jazz, folk, ethno/world music and more. In addition to public concerts and projects, we arrange numerous concerts at schools, daycares, hospitals and residential care homes.
We strive to give the general public access to creative and vibrant music performances. Our activities are based on a cultural mission statement and form part of an active cultural policy that aims to make live musical experiences available even outside major cities. Musik i Syd is driven by a desire to constantly innovate and develop new channels for music enjoyment with wide regional coverage. A key part of our success is our national and international perspective. Over the years, Musik i Syd has created networks and relationships in Sweden and in various other countries around the world, which has given us knowledge, insights and skills that add value to everything we do.
Musik i Syd is one of the largest employers of freelancers in the cultural sector in Sweden. This entrusts us with a responsibility that we want to promote further by highlighting and stimulating new artistic levels and forms of expression.
Musik i Syd also is hosting three music venues – the Concert Hall in Kristianstad, the Concert Hall in Växjö and the Palladium in Malmo (music and contemporary dance). The Musica Vitae chamber string orchestra based in Växjö, and the Ensemble Mare Balticum (early music), are full time employed ensembles.
Headquarters are located in Kristianstad, Malmö, Lund and Växjö.
