About Montréal, Québec, Canada

2017 is a year of anniversaries for Montreal. Along with its 375th anniversary, the city will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada and the 50th anniversary of the Expo67 world fair. These celebrations will, of course, both highlight the city’s rich cultural heritage, and provide an opportunity for younger generations to reflect on the city’s future.

Montreal will host a broad variety of activities, conferences, and cultural events. These gatherings will be the perfect occasion for foreign visitors to discover the city’s creative heritage, which has provided a foundation for the success of Montreal’s major artists.

A peaceful haven for residents and visitors alike, Montreal is also a crossroads for French, English, and “new world” cultures. With its unique heritage and location, the city has become a positive blend of innovation, conservative values, and pragmatism.

The city’s hybrid identity leads us to always question cultural models and to push boundaries. This observation inspired the organizing committee in formulating the theme of the congress, and led it to propose a constructive dialogue on ways of contributing to a society in a world in constant flux.

Celebration of Montréal’s 375th Anniversary
