Half Straddle is a New York-based company that makes plays, performances, videos, and music written and directed by Tina Satter. The company includes composer Chris Giarmo (Big Dance Theater), designer Zack Tinkelman (Sarah Michelson, The Kitchen), and performers Jess Barbagallo, Eliza Bent, Emily Davis, Erin Markey and Julia Sirna-Frest. A number of additional performers and artists including Becca Blackwell, Annie McNamara, Joseph Keckler, Pete Simpson, Susie Sokol, and others have joined Half Straddle in creating their shows and performances.

Seagull (Thinking of you) is a new live performance that works with, against, and beneath Chekhov’s The Seagull. Director Tina Satter’s unique contemporary voice takes on the beauty and darkness of Chekhov’s play in an act of theatrical rethinking. Satter draws from Chekhov’s letters, varying Seagull translations, facts from early productions of the play in Russia, and Chekhov’s perverse sense of comedy to consider anew what makes the human heart beat and why we ever try to say something out loud. With her Half Straddle collaborators, Satter deconstructs the texts to create an unexpected new work of theater that is ultimately about making something with people you could love: just like Chekhov wanted. With a Russian folk metal-influenced score.

Seagull (Thinking of you) will be co-presented by Performance Space 122 and the New Ohio Theatre as part of PS 122’s 8th Annual COIL Festival in January 2013. Seagull (Thinking of you) is made possible with commissioning support from Performance Space 122 and the Jerome Foundation. Additional residency support provided by MASS MoCA, the New Museum, and Abrons Art Center.
