Graham Sheffield is the Director Arts for the
British Council. With this new role he is responsible for leading and
developing global arts policy and programme.
currently driving an uplift in the arts programme, defining a new vision,
building specialist teams, planning major seasons of work in Brazil, China,
Russia and South Africa, as well as responding to changes in the Middle East,
Gulf and North Africa.
Graham was Artistic Director of the Barbican Centre, which under his
directorship became one of the most innovative, dynamic and respected centres
in the world. Graham was also the Chair
of the Royal Philharmonic Society, consultant to the Luminato Festival in
Toronto, and served as CEO of the West Kowloon Cultural District.
was awarded CBE in 2010 for services to the arts.
He is a past Chair of ISPA, council member of
Arts Council England, and was made Doctor of Arts by City University. Graham has been named a Chevalier
de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and a Chevalier de Tastevin de Bourgogne.
