Sydney Opera House

In August 2012, Louise Herron became the Sydney Opera House’s seventh CEO and the first woman to hold the position. Under her stewardship, the Opera House has achieved a number of milestones in its 40th Anniversary year, including a multi-million-dollar, three-year agreement with its first Principal Partner, Samsung Electronics Australia and a $13.7 million commitment from the NSW Government to fund the Opera House master plan. In March, Louise launched a group of visionary donors, The Idealists, to deepen and extend the Opera House’s Ideas at the House program. The program has almost achieved its annual target of 100 Visionaries in just six months. In September, a multi-million-dollar partnership with the NSW Government and NSW Lotteries was announced to bring back a modern edition of the famous Opera House Lottery to celebrate the 40th Anniversary in November 2013. A lawyer, linguist and corporate advisor, Louise’s three-decade career pre-Opera House spanned senior roles in the law, business and the arts. She chaired Belvoir Street Theatre from 2002 to 2012, a period of unprecedented change for the company, and was subsequently appointed chair of the Australian Major Performing Arts Group, which includes the country’s flagship state and federal theatre, dance and opera companies.
