European Union Youth Orchestra CEO, Sistema Europe chair, founder of Sistema Africa, Sistema England Trustee, Honorary Fellow of the Worshipful Company of Musicians, member of Sistema Global advisory board and the British Council’s Arts and Creative Economy Advisory Group. Since beginning lessons on the violin half a century ago Marshall Marcus has spent much of his life in music: as member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra; as co-founder, CEO and Chair of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment; as Head of Music at London’s Southbank Centre where he oversaw one of the world’s largest music programmes; in Venezuela where he was first a professor within El Sistema in 1979. Philosophy, experimental psychology and education graduate from Oxford and Cambridge universities, performance graduate from the Royal College of Music, in an eclectic career he has performed with musicians as varied as Sir Simon Rattle, Baaba Maal and the Moscow Soloists.
