Leon Caren is a cultural entrepreneur, musician and Anthropologist. After finishing his degree in Amsterdam in 2002, he went on to pursue a career as a musician, spending the next 8 years playing in bands and touring across Europe and North America. In 2004 Caren started Subbacultcha!; an Amsterdam based music platform. Subbacultcha organizes over 100 concerts a year, publishes a monthly music magazine and works with a membership system, that offers their members free access to all their concerts for 8€ a month.

In 2014 Caren and his associate Bas Morsch went on to start We Are Public; A multidisciplinary culture membership for Amsterdam, set up in collaboration with over 45 cultural institutions in in the city and aimed at creating a new model, to promote and fund progressive art and culture. After a successful crowdfund campaign, We Are Public launched in September 2014. Caren and Morsch are currently working on introducing the membership outside of Amsterdam.
