  Ismaël Saidi started his working life as a policeman simultaneously directing his first short movies. The movie Moroccan Gigolos, an “unpretentious comedy” under the theme of multiculturalism was unknown in France, but obtained recognition in Belgium in 2013.

His play Djihad, was acclaimed in Belgium in 2014 as well as in a France shaken by terrorist attacks. With its comedic tone, the Huffington Post said of the play that it made them “discover the tragicomic adventures of three misfits who swear by Allah even though none of them has read the Quran”, while Le Monde painted a dithyrambic picture of the author “There is some Coluche in him. Ismaël Saidi is the story of a normal guy who is sought after by the media of the world.” 

  Ismaël Saidi débute dans la vie active avec la profession de policier, tout en réalisant ses premiers courts-métrages. Le film Moroccan Gigolos, une comédie sur le thème de la multiculturalité, méconnu en France, obtient un début de reconnaissance en Belgique en 2013. 

Mais c'est Djihad, plébiscitée en Belgique en 2014, qui fait un triomphe dans une France secouée par les attentats. Sur le ton de la comédie, cette « aventure tragi-comiques de trois paumés, qui ne jurent que par Allah, même si aucun n'a lu le Coran", annonce le Huffington Post, tandis que Le Monde dresse un portrait dithyrambique de son auteur : "Il y a du Coluche en lui. Ismaël Saidi, c'est l'histoire d'un mec normal que les médias du monde entier s'arrachent."
