ISPA Member Kathryn Heidemann Named "40 Under 40" by Pittsburgh Magazine

Help us congratulate ISPA member Kathryn Heidemann on being named '40 Under 40' by Pittsburgh Magazine.  Each year 40 people under the age of 40 are recognized as being committed to shaping the Pittsburgh region and making it a better place.  Kathryn is the Director of the  Master of Arts Management Program at Carnegie Mellon University.  Enjoy this bio on Kathryn featured in Pittsburgh Magazine:

Kathryn Heidemann lived all over the world, from Australia to Venezuela to Germany, but never felt truly at home until she reached Pittsburgh. "I have roots for the first time,” she says. Heidemann came to get her master’s in arts management from CMU. Ten years later, she’s still here — and now runs that program, as the nation's youngest director of an art-administration graduate program. One thing that kept her here was Pittsburgh’s vibrant arts community, which she first explored while working for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, producing Gallery Crawls, First Night events and scores of educational series. ”There’s an artistic renaissance happening here,” she says. "Cultural gems one after another, the deeper you dig, and a wealth of emerging artists, too.” The arts managers she trains are vital to this community’s survival, she says. "Artistic product only takes you so far. You need strong management to build audiences, raise funds and develop innovative methods to sustain arts organizations.” When Pittsburgh’s recognized as being a "most livable” metropolis, its great cultural landscape is always mentioned, Heidemann notes. She’s had a tremendous impact on that landscape, setting the bar high for her students.
