Today we are highlighting Huang Yi & KUKA, one of the pitch projects that sparked great interest among the delegates this past month immediately after its presentation during the New York 2015 ISPA Congress.
From a young age, dancer, choreographer and inventor Huang Yi has been interested in the partnership between humans and robots. Renowned for his velocity and precision, Huang blends dance, dynamic visuals, technology and machines into Huang Yi & KUKA, a work that reveals humanity through new concepts and technologies, exploring the grey area between humans and robots. Throughout the performance, KUKA responds fluidly (by robot standards, at least) to Bach’s "Parita for solo violin and original additions" by Ryoichi Kurokawa. As the dance progresses, Huang and KUKA slip in and out of sync, mirroring the mutable relationship between man and machine.
