 Aravinth KumarasamyArtistic Director and Composer Aravinth Kumarasamy has been the Artistic Director of Apsaras Dance Company since 2005. Leaving behind a successful corporate career in FinTech, he pursued his lifelong passion for Bharatanatyam and transformed Apsaras Arts into a globally recognised professional repertory company. Constantly driven to innovate while remaining rooted in tradition, Aravinth has expanded the language of Bharatanatyam through contemporary storytelling and cross-cultural collaborations incorporating Cambodian, Javanese, Balinese, and Sri Lankan dance forms. His bold and thought-provoking productions have redefined the Bharatanatyam ensemble and earned him international acclaim as one of the leading innovators in the field. He is also the author of AHAM – From the Creative Mind to Stage. For his contributions to the arts, Aravinth has received Singapore’s Young Artist Award (1999), the Kala Ratna Award (2019), and Singapore’s highest arts honour, the Cultural Medallion (2022).
