SESSION IV | Bridging: Distance
Leif Lønsmann | Speaker
Managing Director
Danish National Concert Hall
Denmark
Leif Lønsmann began his career as a radio journalist with the National Danish Broadcaster (DR) in 1978, and was appointed Director of Radio in 1998, with the overall responsibility of all radio networks, the Radio Concert Hall and a series of orchestras and ensembles, including a symphony orchestra, a chamber orchestra, a Big Band and several choirs. Following the decision to construct a new cross media headquarters, including a 1,800 seat concert hall, Mr. Lonsmann was appointed Director of Music, responsible for the hall, which opened in January 2009. The concert hall, DR KONCERTHUSET, has tripled the number of concerts through its six years, and serves today as the leading Danish concert hall, with more than 365 events per year, covering a broad range of concerts and events across genres. More than 25% of the visitors are children & youth, attracted by a strategic children outreach programme, named “DR Musicarium”.
