SESSION 1 | OPENING KEYNOTE
An inspiring key note in which German historian Philipp Blom gives a reflection on how The Little Ice Age has changed societies, but also the cultural life in Europe. What effect will climate change have  on this relationship between city and countryside? What influence will this have on society and the cultural life in Europe and what is the role that the Performing Arts can play here?

What role does site-specific theatre play in the ecology of the performing arts? Experts from the world over introduce us to their perspective on performing in unconventional spaces. Cultural Pub Crawl
Together with a guide and your fellow ISPA delegates, treat yourself to this walking tour to the inner city of Leeuwarden. Discover their own Tower of Pisa - the Oldehove, canals, an old weigh house, the birthplaces of M.C. Escher, double agent Mata Hari, and Rembrandt’s wife Saskia van Uylenburgh among many other gems in town. Wandering in old streets and alleys, you will get to know the European Capital of Culture at its best; you will not only enjoy the beauty of this city, but also be delightfully surprised by cultural encounters, performances, and delicious food and drinks.

Congress Day IV

SESSION 5 | Closing Keynote
The final word of our congress is for Josette Bushell-Mingo OBE, Swedish-based English theatre actress and director who created waves last year with her production about Nina Simone. Josette will be with us the entire week. Looking back at what we have experienced together in Leeuwarden/Friesland, she will reflect on what drives her as an artist to make a contribution to a liveable and dignified world. She does this against the backdrop of people deeply divided by the ongoing debate as racism, sexism and nationalist voices are gathering force worldwide. And still there is hope….and art.
