SESSION II | Bridging: Culture and Humanity
Gregor Zubicky | Moderator
Artistic Manager
Swedish Chamber Orchestra
Sweden
Gregor Zubicky was born in Sweden and grew up in Germany, Australia and South Africa. He studied the oboe in Sweden, Oslo and Berlin. From 1981-97 he was a member of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. During this time he pursued an international solo career, founded and was artistic leader of the International Chamber Music Festival in Stavanger (1991-97) and spent one year as a host of his own TV show for Norwegian NRK broadcasting. He was forced to stop playing the oboe because of a focal dystonia in his right hand. Having criticized orchestral administrations for many years it was only fitting that he in 1997 became artistic manager of the then newly founded Swedish Chamber Orchestra. Since then the orchestra has had a very successful career performing regularly in the important concert halls and festivals of Europe and the USA. It has its residency in its own newly renovated concert hall in the city of Örebro where Gregor also lives with his family.
