The Chengdu Teahouse Project is a new music/theatre work that takes as its central theme the urgent need for places of sanctuary in our 21st century lives. The work explores the underpinnings of teahouse culture (unique to Chengdu), and the minutiae of social, intimate and everyday interactions. Chamber Made Opera collaborates with artists from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music to create this immersive performance for three vocalists and five instrumentalists. The blending of Chinese languages with English, traditional and experimental compositional and instrumental techniques, and interactive installation design creates a distinctive, stimulating and contemporary experience for audiences.
