"Remnants" off to Euroscene Festival
Tuesday, February 27, 2018
Did you attend Pitch New Works at the recent congress? Today, we're highlighting Remnants produced by UK-based production company ERRATICA which was shared with us at the New York 2018 ISPA Congress!
Based on Courtney Angela Brkic's memoir "The Stone Fields: Love and Death in the Balkans," Remnants explores the extraordinary romance between Brkic's Catholic grandmother and a young Jewish man, forced into hiding by the Fascists. Using new oral testimony, the work presents Brkic’s fascinating story in her own voice, embedded in layers of physical theatre and dance, traditional Balkan music and new electronic textures.
We caught up with Remnants' Producer, George Warren, and Director, Patrick Eakin Young. Here's what they had to share about their pitch experience:
We had an amazing experience pitching our work at ISPA’s New York Congress. It was a great honour to be included among the ten pitching companies, especially since the standard of work on display was so high. We started a number of conversations in New York with presenters that are ongoing and that will hopefully develop into performances in 2019. But even more importantly, for a young company such as ourselves, was the opportunity to present our work to, and begin relationships with presenters from all over the world. We’re hoping that it will lead not only to more dates for Remnants, but help us create our next projects as well."
Hoping to catch the full performance? It will next be going to the Euroscene Festival, Leipzig in November 2018 after which they'll be booking it for international touring - stay tuned! In the meantime, check-out the Remnants trailer below.
With a proven track record for success, ISPA's Pitch New Works program continues to assist works in development with securing touring dates, regional agents, co-commissions, premieres and more.
