Did you attend Pitch New Works at the recent congress? Today, we’re highlighting project news that we shared with delegates in New York last month. #JeSuis, by Bessie Award Winning choreographer Aakash Odedra in collaboration with dancers from Mimar State University, Istanbul, was first introduced to ISPA delegates at the Montreal 2017 ISPA Congress.
We recently caught up with #JeSuis’s producer, Anand Bhatt. Here’s what he had to share about the work since it was pitched:
“#JeSuis progressed strongly since the ISPA Pitch new works in Montreal May 2017. Performances of a work in progress in Edinburgh Festival fringe 2017 won the Amnesty International Freedom of expression Award. Following this, the company completed a 6-week residency at NYU Abu Dhabi, by invitation of Bill Bragin, the work premiered at The Arts Center in Feb 2018. Since then the work won the Eastern Eye Acta Award for Best Dance in London and nominated for Best stage production at the Asian Media Awards in Manchester. Strong critical and audience feedback featured both at the UK premiere in Birmingham and subsequent UK tour, which included Sadler's Wells, The Lowry, Lakeside Arts Nottingham. A further UK tour is scheduled for May 2019, followed by a tour of Germany in Autumn 2019 and North America in Spring 2020.”
With a proven track record for success. ISPA's Pitch New Works program continues to assist works in development with securing touring dates, regional agents, co-commissions, premiere, and more.
