Overture with the Arts' Akilah Newton Receives Community Service Award from the Parliament of Canada

Join us in congratulating Akilah Newton, Executive Director and Founder of Overture with the Arts, on receiving the Community Service Award from the Parliament of Canada for her dedication to the youth and her community to promote the arts. Overture with the Arts (OWTA), a non-profit organization based in Montreal offering a variety of free and low cost arts workshops to youth. With over 15 years of experience in the arts industry she reached out to her network of talented artists and assembled a team of instructors to deliver OWTA workshops that use the arts for social change.

At the award ceremony she was introduced as follows:

Akilah is a remarkable woman who has devoted her time to helping youth experience and learn about the arts. She has also helped bring the untold history of Black Canadians to the attention of our youth, through her wonderful book: Big Dreamers: The Canadian Black History Activity Book for Kids.
