Named Femme de Culture in 2020, Chevalière of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2023, and Femme d’Influence 2024 in the Cultural category, Julia Lagahuzère is the Co-Founder and General Director of the non-profit organization Opera for Peace – Leading Voices of the World. Opera for Peace is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the development of high-level careers for exceptional talents from all six continents, many of whom would not otherwise have access to such opportunities. In return, these artists commit to inspiring the next generations of performers and audiences. Participants are selected based on their outstanding talent, strong motivation to succeed, commitment and desire to become citizen-artists capable of making a positive impact on their communities. Julia was Deputy Casting Director at Opéra de Paris (2014–2019), and previously worked with San Francisco Opera, Scottish Opera, and the Opéra de Limoges. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and the University of Sussex, she also studied musicology at the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a master’s degree in opera and visual performing arts from King’s College London. She also serves as Ambassador for SUMus and ONTM – Osservatorio Nazionale Tutela del Mare, two Italian associations whose mission is to foster a new societal model inspired by living systems as sources of innovation and inspiration.
