Juan Felipe Miranda Medina is a musician, dancer and researcher working in the city of Arequipa, Peru. Juan is the first Peruvian to graduate, and with honors, from the prestigious program Choreomundus - International Master Programme in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage. In addition Juan holds a bachelor in musicology, and a Ph.D. in telecommunications. He is actively involved with the Afro-Peruvian community given that his artistic and scholarly focus is Afro-Peruvian music and dance, especially Afro-Peruvian zapateo. His theoretical methods draw from anthropology, musicology, semiotics, engineering and philosophy aiming at a convergence between these fields in the realm of cultural practices. Juan has held several dance workshops in Arequipa, Bolivia, Guatemala, Brasil and Norway and is currently working on the subject of decolonization of heritage and its implications.
