Sulayman Al Bassam is an award-winning playwright and director of mixed Anglo-Arab heritage. His ouevre, characterized by its poetic density, interrogates the pluralities of identity, history and language. He leads a multinational troupe of stage artists SABAB Theatre, performing widely across the Arab World and also at leading world stages, including, amongst others, The Royal Shakespeare Company; B.A.M.in New York and La Comédie Francaise. His play texts are published English by Methuen / Bloomsbury. Al Bassam is also the founder of FIKAR, a research space and arts residency on the island of Failaka, devoted to post petroleum societal strategies. He lives between Kuwait and Paris, France.
